Tie & dye is a coloring technique born in the late 60s in the United States: the expression literally means "to tie" (to tie) and "to dye" (to dye). It comes from fashion, which consisted of dipping twisted fabric in a colorful dye to create a gradient effect, very fashionable in Hippie times. After clothes, the trend has now passed into the world of decoration! With its very airy powdery effect, the tie & dye is THE good idea used by the architect Miriam Gassmann for the renovation of this 16 m2.

Blush on the walls

Before : When Miriam Gassmann discovers for the first time this small studio located in the Canal St Martin district in Paris, she is immediately struck by the lack of clarity in the main room. Despite two beautiful windows without vis-à-vis, the dull and faded walls greatly darken the interior of the accommodation… Another problem raised by the owner of the premises: the lack of personality of the studio, whose decoration has been completely neglected in favor of the functional aspect. In addition to a classic renovation, including new wall and floor coverings, the interior designer Miriam Gassmann's mission is first to find an original idea to bring out the charm of the old elements, while bringing freshness to all. After : In agreement with the owner of the premises, Miriam Gassmann opted for a "tie & dye" effect painting on the lower part of the walls of the main room. The result ? A blush effect totally in tune with the times, which daringly contrasts with the old parquet, the moldings and the wrought iron of the exterior railings. In the same spirit of modernization, the floor is repainted in black and the apartment decorated with a clever mixture of old and current accessories. The new atmosphere in the studio is fresh and totally in tune with the times!

Restore cachet to the studio

Before : One of the main flaws of this studio is its lack of personality. Nothing sets it apart from ordinary accommodation, because all the old elements that make the place charming have been carefully erased by the former owners. After : Every detail has been worked on so that the accommodation finds all its original cachet: the old cupboards are now adorned with pretty old doors, the water heater in the bathroom is hidden under a custom-made cupboard , and the new furniture perfectly matches this atypical, half-retro, half-modern set!

The kitchenette blends into the decor

Before : the mini-kitchen open to the main room is certainly functional, but its aesthetic aspect has been completely left out. With its white melamine cupboards and its gray and dull splashback, the kitchen area is uninviting and does not correspond at all to the tastes of the new owner. After : As for the rest of the studio, Miriam Gassmann chose modern and refined elements, like the large splashback in white marble and the designer fittings. The new kitchen has been made to measure so that it can be extended by a work surface which also functions as a bar and dining area. The built-in refrigerator and the new storage cupboards were chosen in the same white color as the walls, in order to be discreet while blending in with the surrounding decor.

A graphic bathroom

Before : The bathroom is like the studio, dull and impersonal. Despite an impeccable condition, the sanitary elements no longer correspond to current standards! After : The way of simplicity is often the best: it is undoubtedly with this maxim that the decorator completely reviewed and corrected the look of this tiny bathroom. Now adorned with white, delicately enhanced with black lines, the new toilet space has this graphic "little something" which contributes to a modern and pleasant atmosphere to live in everyday life.
