Why insulate your ceiling?
Insulating your home is essential for obtaining a comfortable temperature in summer and winter. It also makes it possible to achieve significant energy savings by eliminating as much as possible the thermal bridges and therefore the energy losses. The ceiling is naturally a space to consider because it will often insulate you from the attic and the roof or allow better comfort between the different floors of a house.
Step 1: choose the material for the insulation of your ceiling
Before embarking on the work, determine which material is most suitable for your needs. To do this, compare the technical performance and the price / quality ratio of the different types of insulation, namely mineral, synthetic or even natural insulation. The most economical? The mineral insulation such as rock wool or glass wool which are the most commonly used but you can also turn to synthetic insulation which has the quality of being more resistant to humidity for example and which offers better insulation than wool thanks to higher density.
Step 2: determine the implementation
Be aware that the implementation of the insulation of your ceiling will depend on the configuration of your home. Thus, if your ceiling closes the attic, you will have more space for insulating the ceiling and can opt for a solution for spreading on the attic floor. Conversely, if it is a ceiling which is located between two floors, the space dedicated to the insulation will be less important and it will therefore be necessary to favor solutions which take up little space under penalty of get lower quality insulation. The necessary spacing will thus determine the type of packaging of your material: in rolls, in panels to be fixed or in bulk to be projected.
Step 3: prepare the site
Once the material has been purchased and the insulation procedure determined, all you have to do is get started. A success criterion? A good organization of your site. Start with the right tools so that you don't get cut during handling. Take good measurements of the surface to be insulated and plan a site space that will be used to cut your material. For installation, play the safety card and wear protective glasses and gloves, especially for mineral insulation. Finally, prefer to carry out this work in pairs so as to make it easier.
