Since August 30, 2014, the Bon Marché has been celebrating the land of the Rising Sun with its exhibition "Le Japon Rive Gauche". It is on the occasion of the 90 years of cultural links between France and Japan that the event was born in the Parisian department store. On the menu of this exhibition: the crème de la crème of Japanese creation in the fields of fashion, beauty, gastronomy and of course design! To embody this aesthetic which is so particular but which is recognized throughout the world, Bon Marché Rive Gauche has chosen two guests of honor: Architect Tadao Ando and Tokyo fashion designer Chitose Abe. You may not know it, but the first concept store in the world was born in Tokyo already 38 years ago. Beams, which has Japaneseized over the years American cool and European chic, today offers its own collections declined under several labels as well as multiple collaborations in the fields of fashion, design, toys and even art. This is the first time that the concept store has set up shop in France, at Le Bon Marché, which has dedicated a corner to it in which you can find, in addition to its casual wardrobe, the Porter B x Jirushi Yoshida shopping bags and melamine tableware for Iiwan children.

From high-end craftsmanship to everyday design objects

During this exhibition, you will be able to discover high-end and exceptional crafts such as the braiding of bamboo or metal, the work of wood and copper as well as the delicate art of ceramics thanks to the Japan Handmand collective. The latter brings together six young men heirs over several generations of their expertise. It is also an opportunity to take a look at what is best in Japan for "long life design" such as cardboard, plastic or colored metal storage boxes, glass jars ... selected by the designer Kenmei Nagaoka, creator of the D & Department stores. And after having toured all these cool creations, take the time to drop by La Grande Epicerie and succumb to some culinary discoveries!
